Our Manifesto
by Redpoint Nutrition

“Success is not a function of individual talent. It’s the steady accumulation of advantages.”
- Malcolm Gladwell

Rock climbers are athletes. We train in gyms, we diet, we rest, we keep track of our accomplishments, we have our own language - we pull on Gastons and monos, we send, we take whippers. We plan our lives around climbing. We strive to improve our enjoyment of the sport as well as our ability to climb harder today than we did yesterday.

Yet, athletes as we are, we rarely take advantage of arguably the most important advancement in athletic performance improvement in the last 10 years: performance and nutritional supplementation. The old guard growls "You don't need that shit. Just go climb!" To be fair, there's a lot of truth to that advice. The best way to improve your climbing is to climb.

Others say "Just eat a balanced diet and get plenty of rest!" It's fantastic advice, but after a day of hard climbing, how often do we skip the organic tofu salad and Green Tea and go for the fat, juicy cheeseburger and a beer? When you're on a road trip and blessed with perfect conditions I guarantee you're not going to be taking all the rest days your body needs. Try as we might, we're human and therefore imperfect.

But we've learned a lot in recent years.

We've learned that climbing every day isn't the most effective way to progress, and it certainly doesn't do your body any favors. We've learned that periodization training yields incredible results. We've learned that total body fitness is almost as important as strong fingers. And, most importantly, we've learned that we have ways to contain the damage of our dietary shortcomings, our lack of sufficient rest. We can improve our overall health, increase our performance and speed our recovery by using the appropriate nutritional supplements.

Let's get one thing straight, because we hear it all the time: Taking nutritional supplements isn't "cheating" or "aid" any more than is using chalk or sticky rubber. Ironically, chalk and sticky rubber weren't brought into the fold without similar controversy. Neither chalk nor sticky rubber nor nutritional supplements is going to turn a 5.10 climber into the next Chris Sharma. What all these things do, however, is make the hard work you put in training and refining your technique go a little bit further. If anything, they allow you to work harder. We don't see a problem with hard work. In fact, we love it.

Virtually every other popular sport in the world relies on nutritional supplements to ensure peak performance and optimal health. As climbers, the things we require of our bodies are not normal. You wouldn't take a stock automobile, tune it for the race track and then stick regular unleaded gasoline in the tank and cheap oil in the engine.

The problem is that rock climbing isn't like any other sport in the world. And it's for that reason we created CRANK Forearm Fuel, a product that delivers performance-improving nutritional supplements specifically formulated for the demands of rock climbing. As climbers we want to be strong but we can't lug meat-head bodybuilder muscles up a climb. We want endurance but we understand that endurance alone will only take us so far (usually only to the next crux move). We need something that works, something with ingredients that are backed by legitimate and compelling science, something that's proven by climbers. Well, now you have it.

In addition to CRANK Forearm Fuel, we're now pleased to offer a full line of nutritional supplements from a variety of top-notch manufacturers. We've done the research, tested virtually hundreds of products, and we've found the best of the best. Redpoint Nutrition now sells a full line of nutritional supplements to improve your general health and wellness, performance, recovery, injury care and training. As we like to say around here, performance is the point!

Happy Climbing,
