More Information:
Creatine is unfortunately the subject of much rumor and misinformation among climbers. It will not make you a meat head bodybuilder. It does not simply make you retain water simply for the appearance of larger muscles. It doesn't cause liver or kidney damage or cramping.
It is, quite simply, a vital component of your muscle cell's primary energy source for short-duration, high-intensity efforts. Phosphocreatine, which is stored in your muscles, is converted into ATP (the form of energy require for muscle contraction). Quite simply, the more Phosphocreatine you have available the more energy your muscles will have for those hard boulder problems or crux sections of your current project. When you supplement with Creatine Monohydrate you increase the amount of Phosphocreatine stored in your muscle cells.
As you may or may not know, creatine monohydrate will not fully dissolve in liquid. That's why you always get that gritty sand at the bottom of the glass. Look at it this way, if it falls like sand to the bottom of your glass what does it do in your stomach? Maybe that explains why so many complain of stomach discomfort when using regular creatine monohydrate.
Micronized Creatine Monohydrate sets a new standard for creatine monohydrate supplementation by actually producing creatine 'micro-particles' that are 20 times smaller than regular creatine powder.
Micronized creatine has numerous advantages over regular creatine monohydrate.
Faster Absorption
AST Micronized Creatine's smaller particle size means quicker digestion and faster utilization.
More Efficient
20 times more total surface area for greater uptake into the bloodstream.
Greater Purity
Micronizing creatine produces a more pure creatine. By increasing the total processing steps and purification procedures, AST's Micronized Creatine yields a finished product substantially more pure. Test it. We challenge you.
Mixes Easier and Better
AST's Micronized Creatine has 20 times more surface area. Greater service area means easier, faster and more complete mixing.
No Stomach Upset
Regular creatine monohydrate sits in the gut longer. This causes discomfort to many users. AST's Micronized Creatine goes into solution better and leaves the gut quicker causing no stomach upset.
Better Results
New Micronized Creatine offers 2000% more particle surface area for better utilization, better uptake, and faster results.
Drink Plenty of Liquids!
It is very important to consume adequate fluids while taking creatine to see best results. A good rule of thumb is to drink an EXTRA 16 to 20 ounces of liquid for every 5 grams of creatine you take.
Suggested Use:
Much of the initial weight gain attributed to taking creatine can be attributed to the massive loading phase typically performed during the first week of supplementation (15-25 grams/day for 7 days). The loading phase is done to hyper-saturate the muscles. Skipping the loading phase and taking 3-5 grams daily will reduce the initial weight gain (but it will take longer for your muscles to reach saturation point). One must also keep in mind that creatine supports lean muscle development, which is a good thing, and lean muscle development will add some weight. However, the amount of strength you gain from a pound or two of lean muscle far outweighs the extra weigh. It's not 1988 anymore and we've learned that anorexic-looking physiques aren't optimal for climbing performance. Don't be afraid to have a few muscles.
Staff Review:
"If you're not taking Creatine Monohydrate then you're blowing it. If you're taking Creatine but not AST's Micronized Creatine Monohydrate, you're still kind of blowing it. It's light-years ahead of standard Creatine powders - it mixes well, doesn't cause upset stomach and is efficiently absorbed. I usually throw it in with my morning protein smoothie and I never even know it's there (that is, until I roll up to my friends' projects and run laps on 'em)."
